Highlights

The DJI Mavic 3 is a boss drone for serious photographers and videographers with a 5.1K50 and 4K120 video capture and is quite frankly a step up in almost every regard compared to its predecessor. The Mavic 3 has better battery life (46 minutes), incredibly stable flight, improved tracking, upgraded accessories, and an amazing camera.

The dual-lens camera offers wide-angle views and a 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad Camera. This larger image sensor provides higher resolution, dynamic range, and more efficient suppression of noise in low-light environments. One of the key features of the Hasselblad camera is the Vision Detection Auto Focus (VDAF) technology. The VDAF uses multiple vision sensors to optimize the camera’s focus while in flight.

Camera

The Mavic 3 camera is the core selling point of this drone for many pilots. The primary camera is the Hasselblad L2D-20C which shoots 20MP still images and 5.1K. You can also drop down to 4K and shoot at 120FPS. The second camera of the dual-lense camera captures 12MP stills and can shoot video at 4K at 30FPS.

  • Components include:
  • 5.1K video recording
  • DCI 4K/120FPS
  • 28x hybrid zoom

Battery

The battery life is about 46 minutes for the stock Mavic 3.

Remote

The RC Pro remote for the Mavic 3 has built-in display, USB Type-C port, is rechargeable, and has a 5,000 mAh battery. This remote is similar to other DJI remotes and runs the DJI Fly app, similar to a smartphone.

Flying

The Mavic 3 has all direction obstacle avoidance and comes with new buy-eye sensors that sit on the rear at 45 degree angles. Objects can be identified up to meters away. ActiveTrack 5.0 allows pilots to autonomously plan routes, providing more safety. The Mavic 3 is slightly bigger than other drones of the Mavic series, however, this does add to stability in high winds over 25 mph.

Summary

Many drone enthusiasts would consider this more of a drone for professional videographers and photographers than a consumer drone because of all the gadgets and high-quality camera. Pilots needing to capture high-quality images and videos will definitely appreciate the 5.1K50 and 4K120 video quality. While this drone is larger and heavier than other Mavics such as the Mavic Mini 3, the size and weight are byproducts of the high-quality camera and maneuverability. This is an excellent drone for professional videographers and photographers looking to capture high-definition footage while flying safely through the sky.
