Highlights

With a 4K60 camera and 48MP sensor, the Mavic Air 2 is one of the leading drones for its price range. It’s slightly bigger than its predecessor, the Mavic Air, however, it’s still small enough to fit into drone and photographer gear bags. The Mavic Air 2 has a flight time of 34 minutes and weighs about 570 grams (1.26 pounds) and can travel at about 42 miles per hour. This drone is also very affordable and can cost around $1,000, depending on add-ons. For beginner drone pilots, this drone is incredibly easy to fly and offers many safety features to avoid obstacles.

The Mavic Air 2 offers video and photography features like quit shots, Hyperlapse, Spotlight 2.0, and Active track 3.0. One of the most useful features is Focus Track, which allows you to target your subject on screen and lock the camera into that subject and the Mavic Air 2 will follow the subject as it moves.

Camera

The Mavic Air 2 can shoot 4K at 60FPS, which is better than many other DJI consumer models. The drone also offers 1080p slow-motion video at 120 and 240 FPS. Other top camera features include:

  • 4K @ 60FPS
  • 8K Hyperlapse
  • ½” 48MP CMOS image sensor
  • 12MP and 48MP photos
  • Spotlight 2.0 subject tracking
  • Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) 3.0

The Mavic Air 2 offers HDR photos where the camera automatically combines over 7 different exposures for a greater dynamic image. The Hyperlight feature also enables better image quality in low-light conditions by taking multiple photos then merging them together. Additionally, this drone is equipped with scene recognition in which 5 components can be analyzed and improved for tone, clarity, and colors.

Battery

The battery offers about 34 minutes of flight time and takes roughly over an hour to fully charge.

Remote

The remote controller was designed more dynamically than previous models, however, it’s also a bit larger than other remotes in the Mavic series. A smartphone can easily be secured with a clamp, similar to the DJI Phantom series models.

Flying

Flying the Mavic Air 2 is pretty straightforward, even for beginner drone pilots. Once you take the drone out of the case, the arms fold out and the propellers easily fit into place. The battery pops right into the slot and that’s it. Once in the air, special features like Focus Track, Quick shot, Hyperlapse significantly simplify maneuvers, allowing pilots to capture complex shots that turn out great for video content and social media.

Summary

The Mavic Air 2 is a middle-market drone and is great for pilots just getting started with their drone career. It’s simple to fly and offers great video and photo capabilities that near professional standards. The safety aspects of the Mavic Air 2 are incredibly beneficial and allow pilots to fly with peace of mind and security. Pilots can easily capture great aerial photography and videography that can be edited for clients and social media.
